Disconnect

The very first thing I noticed when I started to disconnect, is that out of habit, I would try to reach for my phone in my pocket to check social media and waste time. I had to put my phone somewhere where I wouldnt instinctively grab it. Even avoiding the T.V. in my house was frustrating since other family members were watching it! As silly as it sounds, the longer I went without digital devices, the more I became willing to do silly things to entertain myself, like twiddling my fingers, sitting in bed daydreaming, trying out a puzzle, and even clipping my nails (I know, gross). I started to do some house work to get my mind off of it, but then realised I couldn’t even listen to music while I did it. I tried imagining it as a school day like back when I was in high school. 6 hours of no phone is something I did in school anyway so I figured it wouldn’t be so bad, but wow was I wrong. Really shows how often we rely on our devices to just avoid boredom. It is almost like we are afraid of boredom now! As soon as I turned my phone back on….. The notifications were overwhelming. It’s like the one day I leave my phone alone everyone and their cousin wanted to talk to me!
*Below I added a picture of what I probably would have looked like if I had done 24 hours of no phone:
